Music education for babies and toddlers

Musikgarten is the only program that offers curricula for newborns through group piano instruction. It is based on a keen understanding of how children learn, in both a general sense and, specifically, how they learn music.

Marjorie Setnicky has been a certified and licenced Musikgarten instructor since 2007. Her interest in Musikgarten began when her youngest son enrolled in the Kindermusik program and saw the benefits of early childhood music. Marjorie has continued to certify in classes to offer a wide variety of musical experiences for young children and their care givers.

Marjorie attended Bowling Green State University for Music Education, and Harpsichord Performance. Marjorie has a piano studio for children and adults, and is currently The Assistant Organist at Christ & St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Norfolk, VA.

All babies are born with an aptitude for music. But research shows that their aptitude diminishes if it is not nurtured. The best way to nurture a child’s music aptitude is through active music making. By singing and dancing for and with our children in a variety of tonalities, meters and styles we are helping our children reach their full music potential.

This class offers adults the opportunity to play with their babies in a musical setting, experiencing music and movement activities designed to delight the child and awaken his or her curiosity about music. By singing, dancing, bouncing, and rocking, the child’s music aptitude is being carefully nurtured, laying the foundation for beat awareness, vocal production, and aural discrimination.

Activities include singing, bouncing songs, rocking songs, dances, finger plays, body awareness games and echoes.

*Please note – if you have previously attended a baby class and have the instrument kit, please let me know. Family materials will be a lower cost.
