Our Mission

Christ and Saint Luke’s Church is called by God to be a caring spiritual community. Our mission is to share with all persons the worship, teaching and joy of our Lord as our heritage knows them, and through our witness to bring others to love and serve Him. Our ministry is to reach out to all in need of care, nurture and healing.

  Our History

Christ and Saint Luke’s is a historic, urban parish that celebrates the presence of God among us with beautiful liturgy and music, excellent preaching and teaching, and motivating Christian formation programs for children, youth and adults.

  Announcements

Spanish Class Schedule Change
Spanish class is running from Wed. July 7th at 7PM, through Aug 11th. The fall schedule still to come. Please contact Megan Hale at halemeg@gmail.com with any questions.
Prayer Group
The prayer group will continue to meet in the chapel after the early service each Sunday from 9:00 to 9:15 to pray specifically for Christ and St. Luke's Parish. All are welcome and we hope you will feel free to pray in whatever prayer style suits you! Please contact Rosemary Ruddell (599-5188) or Susan Broaddus (613-7004) for more information.
Caring for Creation
Did you know that Honolulu is embarking on a new approach to air conditioning? Frigid deep-sea waters will be pumped through pipes for four miles under water to be used to cool more than 30,000 hotel rooms. This should save 178,000 barrels of oil a year, reduce electricity use 75 percent and eliminate about 84,000 tons of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Way to go! Adult Forum
Father Conor has started a series on The Daily Office for Dodos, or ‘what are all these other pages in the Prayer Book?’ for the Adult Forum each Sunday at 9:15AM.
Time Certain Rector
Your vestry is pleased to announce that the Rev Irwin Lewis has been called as our Rector Time Certain. Win will be leaving his office at the Diocese effective July 15th and, after a vacation and sabbatical, he will join us September 15th 2010. The vestry was unanimous in making this call. As Win said, this is not an “old homecoming week”, for him it is a new adventure. His first steps in this new ministry will be getting to know the parishioners who don't know him. We are blessed. We hope you received the letter from him through email, and if you do not receive email, we hope you will pick up the printed hard copies of the printed letter that are located in the bell tower as well as on the stand in the hall next to the office.
The Bulletin Board Needs You!
Do you have news for the Bulletin Board. Submit your committee's news or requests to Sarah Faber at sfaber83@yahoo.com or B.J. Taylor at taylorasc@aol.com OR simply give it to Athena in the parish office. We want to hear from you!!! Keep our bulletin boards going!!!
Education For Ministry
Education for Ministry, also known as EFM, is a four-year program of theological education, intense study of the Bible and reflection.  It is designed to prepare participants for lay ministry. Students meet weekly in a seminar setting under the guidance of trained mentors.  There will be openings in the class beginning September 2010, and scholarships are available.  For more information, you may contact our Christ and Saint Luke's EFM mentors, Rosemary Ruddell (757-879-9019) or Carolyn Moneymaker (757-406-2227), or one of the clergy.
Save the Date!
September 24-25, 2010 is the date for Living Wet: A Parish Retreat on the Fullness of Baptism. Following the retreat we will have an intergenerational picnic in the Church yard. More details to come.
Summer School
For the third summer we are offering a six-week series of interactive spiritual explorations. We will be studying Walking the Bible, A Journey by Land Through the Five Books of Moses, written by Bruce Feiler. Originally published in 2001 it was turned into a PBS film. We will meet Sundays, 5pm - 6:30pm in Lloyd Hall starting July 25 through August 29. We will open each session by viewing a portion of the PBS video, followed by discussion and snacks. If you are interested, copies of the book are readily available on Amazon at modest prices (can benefit the Beehive!).
Christ and St. Luke’s will be hosting
St. Frances Episcopal Church’s a Mid Summer Magnificat on August 14th at 6PM. We will have a choral evensong with a blend of traditional Anglican music and Negro Spirituals. A light reception will follow.
